Kermit Weeks, owner of the renowned Fantasy of Flight attraction in Polk City, Florida has posted a new video showing his TP-40N performing its first flight in 4.5 years.
Weeks noted that during the machine’s last flight in 2011 the landing gear failed to retract, resulting in a safe, but early, return to the field. This episode, coupled with a previous belly landing in his P-40E, prompted him to ground the aircraft until its original emergency system was re-installed – a process that required the manufacture of special components as well as the removal of the fuel tanks and “lots of gear swings”.
The aircraft returned to the air on December 10, and reportedly “ran great”.
