Hobby Master 1/48 Air power Series HA8603 Hawker Hurricane Mk.I GN-A, F/L J.B. Nicolson, 249 Sqn. England 1940.
On August 16, 1940 over the Southampton
region Flt.Lt. James Nicolson was part of Red Flight when they encountered three
Bf-110s that they attacked but in turn were attacked by three Bf-109s.
Nicolson’s aircraft was hit four times wounding him and setting his fuel
ablaze.
In spite of the
fire Nicolson managed to shoot down an enemy aircraft before bailing out. On
his decent he was
mistakenly shot by Defense Volunteers but managed to survive. For his bravery
he became the sole Fighter
Command recipient of the Victoria Cross.
