Hobby Master 1/72 Air Power Series HA2911 Douglas A-1H Skyraider BuNo. 139780 "Firebird", 1st SOS, Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Base, April 1970.
Douglas A-1H Skyraider 139780 was one of the last
batches of AD-6s and flew with the USN
before transferring to the USAF. In April of 1970 the aircraft wore the SEA
camo scheme and was
assigned to the 1st SOS operating from Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Base.
Between April 3rd and
6th 1972, piloted by Captain Robert Burke it was involved in the SAR of Bat 21.
Lt. Col. Iceal Hambleton was shot down and possessed highly sensitive information
and required rescuing at all costs.
