On Saturday, 7 December 2013, Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar’s latest Spitfire restoration, MkIX TD314 (G-CGYJ), took to the skies for the first time from London Biggin Hill Airport in Kent. Elliott Marsh reports, with photographs courtesy of Robin Brooks.
Spitfire HF MkIXe TD314, registered in the UK as G-CGYJ, is the latest of a lengthy line of Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar (BHHH) restorations and is the most recent Spitfire to fly from London Biggin Hill Airport. This Spitfire has been under restoration to airworthy condition by the Spitfire Company (Biggin Hill) Limited since 2011, and it now joins Spitfire MkI X4650, MkIXs TA805 and MK912, and MkXVI RW382, as part of BHHH’s growing fleet of flying Spitfires.
