These models are listed to complete on Thursdays. D9D would also consider reasonable offers on bulk purchases or further reductions on multiple purchases.

New Hobby Master Releases for June 2011

June releases from Hobby Master include some interesting new models. Of particular interest is the SAAF Hawker Fury, No. 206, limited to 800 pieces and in 1/48 scale. Also in 1/48 is a Brewster Buffalo in USMC colours.

In 1/72 the are few items of interest. The BIGGEST news is that Hobby Master is eventually releasing a 3 tone camouflaged MiG-21!!! Many having been asking for the particular scheme. It comes in the for of the MiG-21SMT which also has a humpback for additional fuel.

There's also F-111F, Miss Liberty II, that led the attack on Lybia in 1986. There's the Toilet Bomber Skyraider with the accompanying toilet!!! Yes, you read correctly, a toilet!!! This was to celebrate dropping 6 million pounds of bombs on Vietnam.

There's an Iranian F-5E Tiger II that will go very well with the upcoming F-4E Phantom II in the same colours. A USMC F-4 Phantom that had the tail painted in Royal Navy colours after it landed on the Ark Royal.

Check out the toilet on the bomb rack!!!!

Dora 9 Diecast joins Facebook.

Yes, we've joined facebook!!!! This with a view to maximising our footprint and  generating more interest in Military Diecast Aviation.

This is a steep learning curve that with hopefully pay dividends in the future. Being new to Facebook, things may start out slowly as we get the feel for the system.

Hopefully regular visitors here will have a look as we get things going. More communication and interaction can only be a good thing. See you all there!!!

SR-71B Blackbird!!!!

Having previous sold a couple of SR-71As I thought it would be interesting to see how the SR-71B from Century Wings would be received. Having an additional cockpit and ventral strakes makes it visually different from the A model and with NASA livery, adds a touch of colour to the Blackbird.

Some Ozzies inbound!!!

Further too requests from clients, some Ozzies, in the form of the A-4 Skyhawk and F-111 Aarvark (known as the PIG in Australia), are winging their way over to SA. Both are 1/72 models from Hobby Master and both are currently the picks of the crop in their respective ranges.

MUSTANGS, MUSTANGS, MUSTANGS!!!

Two 1/48 scale Hobby Master P-51D Mustangs have touched down. The first is the Tuskegee Mustang, "Dutchess Arlene", was flown by Captain Robert Williams. He was the Tuskegee Airman that helped tell their story through the movie, Tuskegee Airman. Known as the Fighting Red Tails this all black unit had a very distiguished history in WWII.

Now the one we've all been waiting for, the SAAF No. 2 Sqn. Korea, P-51D, Miss Marunouchi!!! What a stunner!!!

No. 2 Squadron, South African Air Force sailed to Japan on September 25, 1950. There they received training on the F-51D Mustang supplied by the USAF. When they were ready the

No. 2 Sqn., SAAF became one of four squadrons assigned to the USAF 18th Fighter-Bomber Wing. The No. 2 flew their first combat mission in Korea on November 19, 1950 and on the 30th moved to their new base K-13 near Chinhae. The 2nd Squadron insignia and name “Cheetah Squadron” was adopted because of the two cheetah cubs they brought with them.

Another first when No. 2 came to Korea was the use of the Springbok (antelope) in the center of their roundel. The Cheetahs main role was close air support, interdiction flights against enemy logistics and communication and providing air protection during rescue operations.

Unfortunately the aircraft #361 ex USAF 44-74863 and named “Miss Marunouchi” was written off on October 22, 1952 when Slt B.M. Forsyth was wounded in combat and made a forced landing. The 2nd flew their Mustangs in 2,890 missions and 10,373 individual combat sorties. Out of the original 95 Mustangs they started with there were 74 lost due to accidents and combat. The loss ratio for the SAAF pilots in Korea was 1 out of every 6.

Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet.

Well, yes I know, plastic doesn't really sit well with me. Thing is, there just aren't any Me 163s in diecast. So after having received a request to acquire the Me 163 I pursued a fruitless seach for quite a while. I can however report that four Easy Model Me 163 Komets are inbound!!!

They are plastic, and completely built models with fixed landing gear and come with a stand. Included in the order is a SAAF F-86 Sabre. My motivation is to explore the possibility of providing collectors with models they would like but that are not available in diecast.
